Objective/Purpose of the Job:

Provide information on microbial load in finished goods, raw material, in-process material and water. Provide microbial verification information as it relates to the hygienic status of machines and product contact surfaces and to support the food safety management system whereby providing microbiological related information as necessary.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collect samples and perform microbiological analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, water, Canteen samples and plant effluent to ensure that approved standards are maintained.
  1. Ensure the collection, handling and storage of relevant samples intended for microbiological testing are done to ensure the integrity of it.
  1. Conduct microbiological analyses on samples from other factory/facilities (external samples)
  1. Conduct swab test on production equipment/surfaces and perform microbiological analysis to ensure that cleaning and sanitation standards are maintained.
  1. Conduct bi-monthly hand swabbing exercise and perform microbiological analysis to verify that employees adhere to the hand washing procedure.
  1. Perform air quality analysis in the production areas and Microbiology Lab.
  1. Analyse test results, ensure accurate documentation of results and media usage (traceability) and make recommendations for corrective actions to the Quality Assurance Manager.
  1. Ensure timely reporting of results and deviation as they occur to the Quality Assurance Manager and relevant customer (External, production, etc).
  1. Prepare all testing media and reagents for microbiological analysis and ensure that only approved methods are used.
  1. Manage the functioning of all relevant equipment; maintain inventory required for the efficient operation of the Microbiology Lab and ensure procurement where necessary.
  1. Ensure proper housekeeping of the Microbiology Lab to include daily sterilizing/sanitizing and weekly fogging.
  1. Dispose appropriately generated microbiological waste.
  1. Assist with root cause analysis, training and cleaning validation and verification studies and activities.
  1. Perform any other related duties assigned.

Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:

  1. BSc. Degree in Microbiology or other science subject with Minor in Microbiology.
  1. Minimum One (1) year working experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
