FOOD SAFETY/ SANITATION SPECIALIST

Objectives and Purpose of the Job:
  1. Support the Quality Management System by:
    • Ensuring the implementation and maintenance of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
    • Develop inspection procedures and techniques to support the prerequisite programs.
    • Coordinate the Pest Management Programme at the facility (internally and externally)
    • Implement and maintain the Allergen Management programme
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Factory Cleaning:
    a. Develops, implements and manages the Master Sanitation Program.
    b. Liaises with the factory cleaning team (Production) to ensure that the respective areas are effectively cleaned with the adequate tools and chemicals.
    c. Liaises with the factory cleaning team (janitorial contractors) to ensure that the respective areas are effectively and efficiently cleaned with the adequate tools and chemicals.
    d. Leads and documents the validation of all cleaning processes (CIP, COP) for equipment and infrastructure within the facility and monitors the effectiveness.
    e. Develops, and ensures completion of the documentation of all relevant cleaning procedures for the factory and warehouses.
    f. Works closely with the Micro Analysts’ team to ensure hygienic conditions are maintained in production.
    g. Review and sign off on all documentation at the end of a cleaning activity thus affirming compliance was met.
    h. Ensure the performance of structured root cause analysis after incidents related to hygiene failures have occurred.
  2. PRP: Manages Prerequisite Programs by auditing prerequisite programs and ensuring root cause to failures and action plans are established and followed.
  3. Pest Control: Manages the integrated pest management (IPM) programs (Factory, Warehouse, internal and external). Provide regular update of IPM program.
  4. Zoning/ Foreign Body Management: Ensures that zoning principles enforced in the factory are set correctly for the product category and employees are made aware of the practices. Set up and manage foreign body program, inclusive of glass & brittle plastic programs.
  5. Training: Ensures the training of personnel within CPL to increase awareness of the implemented Quality Systems (GMP & Hygiene,). Training of external contractors and visitors in GMP and hygiene. Manages the GMP program.
  6. Audits: Conducts weekly GMP audits. Follows up corrective and preventive actions from audits. Assists with internal audits, and assists with supplier/distributor audits to ensure compliance.
  7. Allergen Management: Ensures all procedures are updated as per pertinent quality standard. Ensures all pertinent staff are trained in allergen management. Conducts risk assessment, implements, and follows up on corrective and preventive measures.
  8. Traceability: Manages the Traceability Programme by creating and executing the plan as prescribed. Reports and action plans after the exercise is completed and issues the necessary corrective actions to be taken.
  9. Visual Standard Management: Reviews and maintains management tool. Creates standards, conducts training of personnel and verify standards are being met.
  10. Projects: Monitors engineering projects that have an impact on zoning/hygienic conditions of the factory. Releases, in cooperation with the relevant function, new production lines after commissioning prior to start up.
  11. Ensures that only approved standards, procedures and test methods are used in the execution of duties.
  12. Participates in Food Safety and S. H. E. Programmes as specified by the company.
  13. Performs any other function related to duties assigned by the supervisor.
  14. Serve as a back-up for Quality Systems Officer and/or Laboratory Supervisor.
Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:
  1. First Degree in a related discipline such as Natural Science, Microbiology or Food Chemistry; Public Health Science from an accredited tertiary institution.
  2. Minimum of 2 years experience in a Food Plant.
  3. Knowledge in the principles and practices of Food Safety and Quality Systems with hand-on experience.
  4. Experience in auditing of Quality Systems.
  5. Computer proficiency.
  6. Advanced knowledge of HACCP, hygienic design

  1. Establish and maintain sanitary practices and procedures that are necessary to assure the production and distribution of food safe products at CPL.
