Construction & Maintenance Technical Officer

Objectives and Purpose of the Job:

The Construction & Maintenance Technical Officer will provide onsite technical supervision and support by monitoring the day-to-day construction activities on an assigned construction site. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the company’s projects are completed in keeping with requirements and within time and budget. The incumbent must prepare and submit detailed analytical reports as scheduled to provide decision-makers with reliable and accurate information on the status of on-going projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspect construction work and compare it with drawings and specification ensuring that it is done within safety guidelines
  • Prepare construction drawings and plans according to building codes – if required.
  • Measure and quality check building materials for potential hazards such as termites or mold, and any other defects.
  • Ensure that construction materials meet required standards for quality and durability.
  • Check that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are met
  • Identify defects and suggest ways to correct them
  • Monitor progress and coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other team members involved in the construction project to ensure completion timelines are met
  • Keep detailed records of work - costs related to labour, equipment, materials, and other expenses for each phase of construction.
  • Assign workers to their tasks and supervise them throughout the construction process where necessary.
  • Prepare reports on progress made on construction projects.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned.
Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from an accredited academic institution, or other related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ working experience performing similar functions in a large, diverse organization.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) will be an asset
  • Proven experience in performing site measurements to ensure that construction conforms to architectural plans.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.

  • Ability to read all construction drawings
  • Ability to manage change order process
  • Demonstrated site management experience.
  • Working knowledge of Building Codes
  • Working knowledge of the OSH requirement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and report writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent supervisory, coaching and people skills
